One of the best wineries and wine of Croatia.
Simple as is. Instead of rewriting the well known story I am rather bringing to you the collections of related articles and some highlights. I hope you enjoy the stories. For the wine tasting you will have to come to the winery.
The hard work for the years finally paid off. Last year Vicelićs’ were honored by supplying the Queen Elizabeth’s wine cellar with their Dingač. Here is the story in Croatian leading newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija. The story is in Croatian. In order to translate in other language right click into the page and select desired language:
“Autor ovog krasnog vina i vlasnik butique vinarije Vicelić je mladi 36-godišnji Mateo Vicelić. Nastavio obiteljsku vinarsku tradiciju.
Wunderkind of Pelješac: Boutique Winery Vicelić at Grape Nomad
“Lately, I’ve been having a lot of these first-winery-epic-greeting moments. Vicelić is a surname to engrave into this category without doubt. Honestly, I haven’t read or heard a lot about this guy up until my visit, but I must admit, eating tuna steak in a vineyard 200 metres above the Adriatic Sea is all the PR I need. A boutique winery humbly producing 20.000 bottles a year, Vicelić is the new kid on the block who you introduce to your friends, tell them you know your stuff, let him show his skills and BOOM, you have a reputation. Definitely a better love story than Twilight.
Mateo and his wife Lucija, together with their 3.5 hectares of vines, are the definition of blue-chip hosts. Along a rocky-limestone path, which is the main culprit for the greatness of Plavac Mali, we experienced a real rally ride to their open air tavern. For six hours we talked, laughed, ate and admired the magic of Pelješac, especially the pureness of the Adriatic Sea near midnight, when all goes numb, giving way for darkness to intoxicate every single pore in the body. You feel no burden, no racing thoughts. Just pure bliss cleansing the spirit.”
The VICELIĆ DINGAČ can be purchased at:
VICELIĆS’ boutique winery is producing about 10,000 bottles of premium Dingač wine. The winery and cellar are at the old family house in rural village of Pijavično. The winery has a great tradition of wine making since 1935. Established by grandfather of Vicelić’s family the winery was ever since bottling wine and even exporting to Prague. The wine production was the largest in the region of Peljesac at that time. The same production was shut down during the World War II and kept to the minimum for family needs. Mateo’s goal is to revitalize the production and have replanted the old vineyards in Dingač area on about 3.5 hectares of vineyards with a breathtaking view, and about 1 hectare inland Peljesac. Boutique winery Vicelić produces Dingač, Plavac Mali, Rose and Selekcija desert wine.
Dingač premium quality is fascinating, rich red wine characterized by fruits, dark cherry, blackberry and plum, entertaining bouquet with richness of sugar. Nuanced spices and oak barrels supported by solid, but ripe tannin structure.
